Yankee Doodle Dandy

Here are some shots from July 4th, 2009. We started off the day with a little parade. When I say little, I mean little. It goes about three blocks and then turns around and comes back, lasting a total of 10 minutes. My kind of parade! So the kids got their bikes all decorated (translate- MOM decorated the kids bikes for them after they tried to put the streamers on but they were not weaving in and out of the spokes properly.) So here they are in line for the parade...

They made it about 20 yards when they saw the truck in front of them throwing candy. FORGET THIS, they said, as they parked their bikes on the side of the road and started filling their pockets...

Later that day we had some friends over for a little BBQ while Ethan and his girlfriend Claire (as in his friend that is a girl- they are not dating) swam in the little plastic pool. Is there anything that spells childhood summer better than a plastic pool? (What... lemonade stand? Dang it, I already used that line!) So here is Ethan with his dad's goggles on that are about to suck his eyeballs out of his sockets.

Jace trying to get Claire to pitch to him. Poor Claire- Jace gets easily frustrated with 3 year olds who can't pitch, which is why Ethan is over on the swing. He knows better...
A few days later, we pulled out the $5 worth of fireworks we got at Walmart (pop-its, sparklers and 2 inch fountains). The best $5 I have ever spent!

Our sparkler art...

This one is called "Spaghetti" by Jace and Ethan...
And the big show- I have to admit I was pretty impressed with these cheap little fountains. I had pretty low expectations of a firework that cost $1, but these babies delivered!

And the grand finale...
Beautiful!
